The Grand Opening of Chuck Baird Art Gallery

The grand opening of Chuck Baird Art Gallery was a smashing success. Over one hundred people attended this special day on September 21, 2018.


Cynthia Porter, Chuck Baird's niece, cut a red ribbon and unveiled Chuck's portrait and art gallery.

I wasn’t able to attend the grand opening back in 2018, but seeing these photos now makes me feel like I missed something truly special. The moment Cynthia Porter cut that red ribbon and unveiled Chuck’s portrait must have been heavy with both pride and grief. What got me thinking, though, is how we preserve art beyond paint and canvas. Lately I’ve been experimenting with 3d Printer files from places like Gambody.com — turning game models into physical objects feels like a different kind of tribute to creativity. Chuck Baird brought Deaf culture to life through bold strokes; maybe we can honor that same spirit by printing tactile versions of his work for blind art lovers or making mini gallery…
